The one worrying thing that could now cost Wrexham in their League Two promotion bid

Despite a great season so far for Wrexham, there is one issue which may cause them a problem late in the season. That is their away form so far this campaign.

There is no doubt that it has been a near-perfect season for Wrexham so far. Given that they only achieved promotion last season, to be second in League Two is superb.

Thanks to the work of Phil Parkinson, the Reds have risen through the National League and are now up for back-to-back promotions.

There have been some excellent performances at The Racecourse so far this campaign. From the 4-1 win over Barrow to the 6-0 Morecambe victory.

On top of this, there have been just as satisfying close-fought games with wins over Wimbledon and Colchester in recent weeks.

All this sees the Reds sit at the top end of the table and in the automatic promotion spots. Now there has been some concern shown regarding their away form this season so far.

Wrexham worrying away form problems

It must be said that the home form of Wrexham has been superb and the away form would certainly struggle to match it.

According to FotMob, the Reds are currently the best side in the whole league when it comes to home form. 11 wins and two draws have been met by just one defeat and as a result, amassed 35 points.

On the flip side, a report by The Athletic has suggested that their away form is much worse than their home.

On that, they said: “Wrexham have taken just 17 points from 13 away games (11th best in the division).

“Top-five rivals have all better. Mansfield Town leading the way with an impressive 27 points on their travels, closely followed by Barrow (25), Stockport (21) and now Crewe (20). Shots on goal 17.4 at home vs 13.3 away and Shots on target 7.3 versus 4.5 respectively.”

It is clear to see from this alone that there are some struggles for Parkinson’s side away from The Racecourse.

Given that they are still sitting in second place, this isn’t necessarily an issue. Where this could play its part is later in the season, especially in the run-in. If their form continues on a downward spiral it could end up de-railing their campaign.

Even if that might be the case, the opposite could come true and the amazing home form inspires the away to improve. However this season finishes, it has certainly been one to remember.
