Wrexham fans have been reacting to Will Boyle and the future of his career with the Reds following his red card v Newport County this weekend.

It has been a great season for Wrexham so far this season which sees them fighting for League Two promotion.

There has been plenty of good to say about Phil Parkinson and his side, especially their home form. This sees them amongst the EFL and Premier League’s best.

On the flip side, their away form has been mid-table, at best, in the league which has hampered them at times.

This came to a head against Newport as the Reds fell to a 1-0 defeat against their rivals and were dominated. There was a lack of chances for the away side which was uncharacteristic.

The game certainly changed around one moment as Will Boyle was sent off for a follow-through challenge. This has sparked some questions regarding his future at the club.

Will Boyle performances

Wrexham signed Boyle as an option for the left of Parkinson’s back three. Jordan Tunnicliffe had played there in the National League there, but Boyle was said to be a better player given his experience.

Boyle is more of an old-fashioned centre-back there is no doubt. He likes the ball in the air and making himself a physical presence. Given he was dropping from the Championship to League Two, there were high hopes for him.

He was one of just four summer signings as the Reds strived for quality over quantity following promotion.

Since his move, according to FotMob, he has made just ten starts and has failed to truly impress in that time. Despite scoring two goals, the rest of his game time has failed to capture the imagination.

He has an average rating of 6.68 while clocking up a 5.7 against Stockport County and a 5.3 against Newport.

Despite his average ratings not being so bad to look at, he certainly doesn’t pass the eye test. Now Wrexham fans have been reacting.

Wrexham Fans pass opinion

It is safe to say that his performance against Newport wasn’t well received by fans who weren’t best pleased. Although he only featured in 18 minutes, his red card affected the game.

Following the Twitter post about his red card, fans have reacted to the centre-back and his time with the club.

This fan recounted other games which Boyle had featured in where he gave away two penalties in different appearances. ‘He’s a liability’ is something which all but sums up the Wrexham fans’ feelings about him.

This fan simply said: “Awful signing, sell asap.”

Considering that Boyle has played Championship football as recently as last season, he should be better than he is.

It is clear to see that fans don’t rate him and after his red card against Newport it could be difficult for him to get back into the starting XI.
