Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson has made his feelings clear after the clash vs Forest Green was postponed this weekend.
It has been a great season for Wrexham so far this season and they were looking to bounce back from the Burton defeat.
This weekend, Phil Parkinson and his side were set to travel to face Forest Green who currently sit 23rd, at the time of writing.
Following a spell of bad weather across the UK many games were postponed. On Saturday there was five games called off including the Reds’ clash.
This didn’t see Wrexham’s League Two position change but was frustrating nonetheless. The Reds boss wasn’t best pleased with the cancellation.
What has Phil Parkinson said about Forest Green?
The game was eventually postponed at 11:45 am on Saturday leaving just over three hours before kick-off. Given that the distance between the two grounds is roughly two hours and 45 minutes this arguably should have been done sooner.
Opening up on that point, speaking with Leader Live, Parkinson said: “It is obviously frustrating for ourselves and our supporters who had set off as well.”
With that being said, despite the frustration, there was logic to the decision given the weather conditions in the hours before. This had seen lots of rain come down and affect the playing surface.
This fact wasn’t lost on Parkinson who said: “There was water lying on the pitch and it was unplayable. We have had an unprecedented amount of rain so the referee was given very little choice really.
“It is one of those things. It is the referee’s decision, we obviously wanted the game on and we prepared well for it but certain things are out of your control.”
The frustration comes but in the end, there is no one to blame, it is what it is. With that being said, Parkinson did feel for his players, staff and the fans as well.
Discussing that he added: “The lads were disappointed and the staff were, everybody was ready for action. We went the day before so we were already down there.
“I feel for the supporters, some had got quite a long way down so they will be frustrated but we had a lot of rain and other games around the country were off as well.”
With Wrexham’s game not being until next weekend, at home to Colchester United, this postponement provides some rest. This may be welcomed given the heavy fixture congestion recently, even if it is frustrating for Parkinson and Co.
