Wrexham produced a performance that was fitting of the occasion as they hosted league leaders Birmingham in the ‘Hollywood Derby.’

Phil Parkinson made three changes to the starting line up that played poorly in defeat at Shrewsbury with one of those changes George Dobson having a real impact on the game.

Wrexham got off to the perfect start as midfielder Ollie Rathbone placed a wonderful, curling strike beyond Ryan Allsop, before a Lyndon Dykes header deflected off Dobson to hand Birmingham the equaliser.

The Red Dragons pushed for a winner in the second half, keeper Arthur Okonkwo didn’t have a single shot to save but notable efforts from James McClean and substitute Steven Fletcher couldn’t find a way past the impressive Allsop in the Birmingham net.

Wrexham fans impressed with performance in draw with Birmingham City

The Racecourse Ground was in full voice for the game and the fans certainly played their part in driving the team forward, especially in their second half dominance.

Some Wrexham fans have taken to X to voice their opinions on the side’s performance against the League One leaders. One fan wrote: “Best match we have played considering the opposition’s strength. The guys were great tonight.”

‘Humble pie’ was being eaten by one fan after criticising the team following the Shrewsbury defeat, they wrote: “I was fast enough to criticise their performance last week so I must eat humble pie this week they were outstanding tonight, not the same team that played Birmingham last time and not the one who played Shrewsbury.”

George Dobson, Ollie Rathbone and Max Cleworth are highlighted as star performers for Wrexham

Whilst it was an excellent team performance, three players have been credited with having notable efforts on the night.

Olli Rathbone scored 9/10 in the Wrexham player ratings as he worked tirelessly and produced a moment of magic to open the scoring.

George Dobson was highlighted by fans as having produced an excellent performance at the heart of midfield and Parkinson heaped praise on Max Cleworth after he nullified the threat of Birmingham’s deadly marksman Jay Stansfield.

Wrexham will now be hoping to build upon the result to gain some momentum in the race for League One promotion with Stevenage the visitors up next.
