Wrexham fans will be fuming with Birmingham City’s latest jibe, rivalry is not going to end any time soon

Both Birmingham City and Wrexham know they are heading for the Championship next season, but the two clubs are still firing shots at one another online.

When Birmingham dropped into League One and Wrexham got promoted to the third tier, there was always going to be a bit of a rivalry given the high profile owners of the two clubs.

While the relationship between Tom Brady, Ryan Reynolds, and Rob McElhenney is competitive yet friendly, fans of the Blues and the Red Dragons don’t exactly get along.

Birmingham stormed to the League One title in record-breaking fashion, while Wrexham registered an historic third-successive promotion this year.

With huge success for both sides, surely they can let bygones be bygones now and look forward to the season ahead? Well, not quite.

Birmingham City fuel the fire with latest social media post

Birmingham recently set the record for the most points accrued in a season by an EFL team. They not only surpassed the 103-mark set by Wolves in League One, but also smashed the 106 points Reading put up in the Championship, too.

By finishing on 111 points this term, the Blues are now the holders of the EFL record by quite some distance. But, Wrexham were quick to point out that the Red Dragons clocked up the same impressive tally when they won the National League title.

Seems the admin of the Birmingham Twitter/X account wanted to remind Wrexham of the difference in the two feats, with a provocative yet, admittedly, pretty funny discourse going on right now.

After Birmingham’s account posted to say, “We swear you’ll never see anything like this again,” the Wrexham account posted a photo of their 111 point National League return and commented, “In case you missed it lads.”

Now, the Blues have responded, posting a photo of the final League One table and crossing out Wrexham’s 92 points to replace it with an annotation reading, “111 in non-league.”

Nothing like reminding your rivals where they stand. The Birmingham City admin obviously had some fun with this one.

Birmingham City and Wrexham will go head-to-head in the Championship next season

Both Birmingham and Wrexham will be eager to prove themselves in the Championship next season, and it’s safe to say that both sides are aiming to get promoted once again.

Wrexham will need to spend big to achieve that, and we already know that Birmingham very much intend to go all out in their quest to make an impact in the second tier.

While rivals have suggested Wrexham will struggle in the Championship, if there’s one thing we know about the Red Dragons and Phil Parkinson, it’s that they love to prove people wrong.

Everyone doubted Wrexham going into League One, but they surpassed all expectations. With the financial backing and ambition of the Wrexham owners, we could see yet another surprise next season.

Either way, it’s going to be a lot of fun to see the might of Birmingham and Wrexham going toe-to-toe again in 2025/26.
