Wrexham are set to face fellow League Two side Mansfield in the first round of the FA Cup.

England’s most prestigious cup competition will see Wrexham enter the first round as an EFL side for the first time since 2008 and may be looking to go a step further than last season.

Wrexham, as a National League side, reached the fourth round last year, knocking out Coventry City before losing to Sheffield United, and Phil Parkinson will hope to top that campaign.

Wrexham to face Mansfield

The FA Cup draw has been made, and Wrexham will travel to Mansfield Town for the tie, which will take place during the weekend of November 3rd.

This will be a repeat of Wrexham’s recent trip to Mansfield which saw the sides draw 0-0, and Wrexham will not be hoping for a repeat result, given that there are replays from this stage of the competition.

Given everything that has happened at Wrexham since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought the club, with a dramatic promotion and a documentary boosting the club’s popularity, a fairytale FA Cup run would surely be the perfect addition to Wrexham’s campaign.

The prize money of £40,000 for winning the first round will be a welcome boost for the club, and they will hope to beat their fellow League Two side to reach the next stage.

Reaching the third round could see Wrexham draw a Premier League side, and the prospect of playing a top-fight, or even top-six side, is a mouthwatering one.

Parkinson has experience in magical cup runs, having reached the League Cup final with Bradford City over 10 years ago, and beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with the same side. If such heroics can be repeated at Wrexham, then the FA Cup could prove to be a very enjoyable competition this season.
