Wrexham owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have become well-known for making charitable donations.

Reynolds and McElhenney have, of course, pumped a lot of money into Wrexham football club to get them promoted into League Two.

Following their arrival in February 2021, no one could have envisaged the incredible journey that has unfolded with the Hollywood duo completely transforming the fortunes of the Welsh side.

Whilst success continues to transpire on the pitch as Phil Parkinson‘s men embark on a second consecutive promotion, the work they’ve done off it and the difference they’ve made in the community has been incredible.

Only last month McElhenney and Reynolds donated £10,000 to a four-year-old Wrexham fan so the parents could adapt their house, and now they’ve made their next five-figure donation.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds donate £15,000 to Mansfield fan

John Bell, a bereaved father to Jake Bell and a co-founder of Walking 4 Hope, is embarking on a monumental journey to raise awareness and support young people, families, and bereaved parents of suicide.

Bell is walking the 140-mile journey from his hometown of Mansfield to Wrexham in time for the game on Good Friday.

Walking 4 Hope is a charity that supports the mental health and well-being of those individuals who are struggling.

In honour of his son’s favourite character, John will arrive at the STōK Cae Ras dressed as Deadpool while also carrying a specially adapted bath displaying ducks, honouring lost loved ones.

Catching the attention of Deadpool himself, Reynolds, alongside co-chairman McElhenney, have donated £15,000 to the Walking 4 Hope fundraising page and sent messages of support.

How John Bell reacted to the donation

McElhenney and Reynolds showed their kindness as individuals once more by donating a five-figure sum to such a worthy cause.

As expected, the donation left John shell-shocked. However, he was also inspired even more to complete the challenge.

“Perhaps I maybe expected a little joke on social media from Ryan or a video, but even then I didn’t think I’d get that,” John told The Leader.

“He messaged me personally and I was honestly shaking, his words were an inspiration, it was just amazing.

“Both Ryan and Rob are just amazing guys, I am so thankful for them and the donation, which in turn will help support so many people and their families.”

During such an important period of the season, the fact that Wrexham’s owners are still looking to make huge donations is a testament to how incredible they are as people.

Hopefully, we get to see John on the pitch before the game on Friday to celebrate his impressive achievement and then watch an exciting game of football.

Wrexham arrive three points behind the league leaders Mansfield, so John couldn’t have picked a better time to take on this challenge with the match perfectly poised for a cracker.
