Wrexham star, Paul Mullin has admitted he isn’t expecting a call-up to play for Wales with his lower league status potentially playing its part.
Paul Mullin joined Wrexham in 2021 and has been nothing short of sensational since a move from Cambridge United.
Under Phil Parkinson, the Welshman has scored 83 goals in just over 100 matches. A ridiculously good record.
With that being said, he has never received a national team call-up. This is even when there has been a struggle for goals.
What has Paul Mullin said?
His form for the Reds has been spectacular and has been one of the best signings the club has made.
Despite being an expensive signing, given the level, it has been better than anyone could have expected.
In saying that, Mullin has no expectations. While speaking to the BBC he said: “I don’t expect to be called up.”
It is a sadness that there is a lack of hope. This is from one of the best strikers available to Wales right now.
Giving his thoughts about the reasoning, Mullin added: “As an international manager, you’ve got players who are already registered for the country playing at higher levels.”
With that being said, the Reds’ striker takes some responsibility: “In football, it’s been said I could’ve played at a higher level.
“I chose not to so I can’t really hold a grudge for then not being selected. I chose to come and play here.”
In saying this, he didn’t agree with the reasoning behind his exclusion: “Although me personally. I don’t think it should be a problem.”
With the Red Dragons on the rise, it may be no time until Mullin achieves an international call-up.
For now, Wrexham fans are happy that their star is all theirs and isn’t departing the club and at extra risk of injury.
