Wrexham’s transfer window has been a resounding success and now one of their new signings has been told he’ll become a ‘fans favourite’.

Wrexham can be pleased with how their transfer has planned out with seven new players arriving at the Racecourse Ground.

That included a return for Arthur Okonkwo, who left Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer, while the Reds have smashed their transfer record to sign Oliver Rotherbone from Rotherham United.

Okonkwo was a fan favourite last term as his incredible performances caught the eye and now Rathbone has the opportunity to achieve similar, but that duo haven’t received praise as much as one other Wrexham addition.

Wrexham midfielder George Dobson now told he’ll become a ‘fans favourite’

Wrexham caused the whole of League One to stand and applaud when they signed defensive midfielder George Dobson on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old possesses exceptional pedigree at this level, captaining Charlton Athletic last term while amassing over 250 appearances in the third tier.

Dobson made his competitive debut for the club last weekend, as Wrexham secured an impressive 3-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

He then came off the bench in the Carabao Cup defeat to Sheffield United, with journalist Rich Fay waxing lyrical about his performance against Championship opponents and even suggesting he could ‘become a fan favourite’.

Speaking on the Rob Ryan Red podcast, Fay said: “Dobson, even when he came on, he’s just got this energy and determination.

“He’s going to be a fan favourite; he’s the player fans will love the most this season because he just gives 100%, throwing everything into every single game and he was a nuisance on Tuesday night. He kept dead balls alive and he brought energy and pizzazz to the midfield. I love watching him.”

George Dobson is winning the battle against George Evans

Dobson was signed to provide competition for George Evans in defensive midfield and currently, the summer signing is coming out on top in that respective battle.

Following an impressive pre-season, where he held his own against the likes of Bournemouth and Chelsea, he was selected to start over Evans against Wycombe.

He repaid his manager with a fine performance on debut, winning four aerial duels, two ground duels and accurately playing three long balls.

Dobson was then rested against the Blades on Tuesday night in place of Evans but he still oozed class coming off the bench, recording an 82% passing accuracy and one key pass in his 20 minutes on the pitch.

The former Arsenal academy graduate is now in line to start against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday and if he can continue putting in brilliant displays, he’ll become a fan favourite in no time.
