Wrexham have added another new name to their summer transfer shortlist. And it’s someone who’s only 19 years old.

So often Wrexham sign players with more experience. And it’s worked to a huge degree with Wrexham being promoted from League One and securing a third-straight promotion under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Now though, Phil Parkinson seems to have turned his attentions to signing some more youthful names for his side, with a vision of a future Wrexham in mind.

Wrexham are linked with Jack Kingdon who looks set to be released by Manchester United at age 19, on the lookout for some first-team opportunities and with no shortage of interest.

Alongside Wrexham, the likes of Leicester City, Millwall, and Derby County are reportedly interested.

Wrexham target Jack Kingdon once captained Scotland’s U18s

A centre-back, Kingdon played in both midfield and even attack for Man United’s younger age groups before settling in at the heart of defence. And this season he’s gotten his first taste of first-team football joining Rochdale on loan for the second half of the campaign, playing 16 times in the National League and helping his side to a play-off finish.

Promotion would be a very big accolade on his early CV, along with captaining his national side. In 2023 Kingdon captained Scotland’s U18s, having also represented his country at u17 and now U19 level too.

Wrexham target Jack Kingdon was an award-winning sprinter as a youngster

Despite standing at 6ft 1ins, Kingdon is fast. So fast in fact that, as per Manchester Evening News, Kingdon was once a gold medal sprinter as a youngster.

In sprints across 75, 150 and 600 meters, Kingdon won gold medals at the Bolton United Harriers championships, and in today’s game being fast and athletic as a defender is just as important as being so in attack.

Having now gotten his initial experience of first-team football, and having plied his trade with Man United as a youth player, Kingdon now looks ready and prepared to go out and really settle into senior football.

And he could be an ideal signing for Parkinson given the fact that Eoghan O’Connell’s Wrexham contract expires this summer, although he looks likely to land a new deal.

The Wrexham journey will always be an attractive proposition for players and for Parkinson, signing Kingdon would add some much-needed youth to a quite ageing side.
