Wrexham fans were celebrating a Halifax Town victory on Wednesday evening as Chesterfield’s hopes of a record-breaking season ended.
Wrexham made history last season, racking up the highest points total in National League history.
111 points left Wrexham top of the league having fended off incredible competition from Notts County.
The previous record stood at 105 points, set by Crawley Town way back in the 2010-11 season.
Wrexham blew past that mark in style and few would have expected to see that total coming under threat any time soon.
Chesterfield have given supporters something to worry about though having enjoyed a stunning season themselves.
Wrexham 111 points record stands as Chesterfield fall
Paul Cook has masterminded an impressive campaign for Chesterfield after finishing third last season.
The Spireites have racked up 29 wins and a whopping 97 goals from 40 games – but they won’t be breaking Wrexham’s record.
Before Wednesday’s trip to Halifax Town, Cheltenham had Wrexham’s record insight.
Seven wins from the final seven games would have taken Chesterfield up to 113 points, blowing Wrexham’s record away after just a year.

Halifax came up with a huge performance though, beating Chesterfield 4-2 with a superb display.
The final whistle sparked celebrations at The Shay but also in Wrexham as fans rejoiced at last season’s record being safe.
Chesterfield can only reach 110 points now and Wrexham fans will be hoping that nobody else comes close any time soon.
Wrexham only lost three games last season compared to Chesterfield’s six so far this term, so the bar is incredibly high for anybody looking to break that record.
We can’t see it being broken or matched any time soon and this record is something that Wrexham and Phil Parkinson should be hugely proud of as Chesterfield’s hopes come to an end.
