Wrexham’s owner Ryan Reynolds celebrated his 47th birthday on Monday the 23rd of October 2023.
The Deadpool actor, alongside Rob McElhenney, has been in charge of the Red Dragons since February 2021 – when they took control of the Welsh club from their Supporters Trust.
Since then, they have transformed the club in ways many thought were unimaginable, most notably guiding them back into the English Football League.
This has led to a fantastic relationship with the club, its supporters and also the players. Including the club captain, Ben Tozer, who wanted to give a little something to Reynolds on his birthday in order to say thank you.

Ben Tozer’s Birthday Gift to Ryan Reynolds
Tozer was asked as by talkSPORT what he was getting his owner for his birthday. The defender replied:
“I was going to get him a picture of myself with his mum because of all the history there,” he joked.
“But there was no whip round as I’m sure he’s not short of a few quid, but it will be great when we see him.”
You may be asking yourself… what history? Let us explain.
Ben Tozer and Ryan Reynolds’ mum joke history
Tozer’s comment about Reynolds’ birthday gift actually relates back to a joke he made about Ryan’s mum, Tammy.
Tammy was present in a monumental 3-2 victory over Notts County last season. She was even seen joining in with the rest of the gang in the post-match celebrations.
Laura Woods, talkSPORT presenter at the time asked Tozer about Tammy amid rumours she flirts with him, to which Tozer responded:
“I’m not quite her favourite, but we had a lovely hug. She’s not a bad-looking woman at 77 it’s got to be said!”
Reynolds actually responded to this on Twitter, hilariously stating: “Get promoted and I’ll make you my new stepdad, Tozer.”
It’s all fun and games of course. But it remains to be seen whether Tozer will actually give Ryan his gift.
Nevertheless, what is great to see is the playful dynamic between owners and players – indicating morale is at an all-time high in Wrexham.
