Wrexham need to keep the pressure on Wycombe Wanderers in the race for the Championship as both sides face tricky away tests.

Phil Parkinson is preparing to take his side to Northampton Town, who have won consecutive games in League One against Mansfield and Huddersfield Town.

Parkinson will use his whole squad for the remainder of the campaign and after Arthur Okonkwo impressed against Bolton, the manager is set to recall his number one goalkeeper for the game.

Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith look set to continue their partnership up front for Wrexham, whilst their opponents have also received some positive news of their own before the game.

Aaron McGowan is set to return for Northampton against Wrexham

According to Northampton’s official website, defender Aaron McGowan is set to return to the side to face Wrexham after missing their 1-0 victory over Mansfield.

Northampton boss Kevin Nolan stated: “Aaron has been back in training and I’m hopeful he will be available for selection.”

McGowan has been in good form for Northampton this season and an important figure in their side at right back, he has made 22 appearances in all competitions and contributed one assist.

Northampton will still be without fellow TJ Eyoma and new signing Dara Costelloe however, for the visit of Parkinson’s men.

Parkinson will need to ensure Wrexham win midfield battle against Northampton

Wrexham will need to ensure that they win the battle in midfield against a resurgent Northampton Town side. Ollie Rathbone and Matty James look set to start with Andy Cannon in the Wrexham predicted XI.

Northampton midfield duo Terry Taylor and Liam Shaw have impressed in recent weeks, Shaw in particular has been a goal scoring threat with two in his last three appearances.

Rathbone and James have both been on the scoresheet themselves in recent weeks and will need to ensure that they give their side a platform from midfield to go on and wrestle the initiative in the match.

Wrexham can close the gap to four points on Wycombe with victory over Northampton but know that they will have to be at their best to overcome Nolan’s well-drilled side.
