Wrexham have been busy this summer with new signings and securing key players with new contracts.

It has been an exciting couple of weeks at Wrexham with Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney supporting the rebuild of the squad.

Red Dragons manager Phil Parkinson has been building a younger core this summer with 22-year-old goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo returning to the Racecourse after an impressive loan deal last year.

Parkinson has also reinforced his defensive options with the club snapping up Leicester City defender Lewis Brunt.

Brunt, 23, is a promising and quality defender and will hopefully be able to build a strong relationship with Max Cleworth.

Cleworth, 21, has agreed a new contract to remain in North Wales until 2027. The young centre-back has become an increasingly important member of Parkinson’s side and will be part of the long-term project at Wrexham.

Wrexham stars react to Max Cleworth contract news.

Since making his debut for the club in August 2021, Cleworth has shown real quality and potential.

The academy star now has 73 games under his belt and is becoming an ever-present member of the Wrexham squad.

Securing his future at the Racecourse was an important priority for the club.

The 21-year-old was delighted at his contract extension and took to Instagram to celebrate his deal.

Several key Wrexham stars reacted to Cleworth’s post including Elliot Lee, Will Boyle, and Ryan Barnett.

Wrexham’s key star Lee commented: “👏😍❤️”

While defensive partner Will Boyle was pleased commenting: “Yes, yes, yes 👏 🔥”

Fellow young Wrexham star Barnet was also happy about the deal, reacting with: “Featuresssss 🔥”

Max Cleworth and Lewis Brunt to lead new-look Wrexham defence

After the recent summer departures of Ben Tozer and Aaron Hayden, the Wrexham boss needed to bring in reinforcements for the backline.

New signing Brunt provides strong quality after impressing on loan at Mansfield Town last season.

The 23-year-old is relatively young but has proven EFL quality with the potential to grow at the club.

Alongside Brunt, Cleworth can be part of the new-look Wrexham side the club can build around.

Both players provide a solid foundation and will hopefully grow with the club and play at a higher level.

The defenders are capable of playing the ball out from the back which will help the team progress up the pitch, and create more attacking opportunities.

The latest moves by Parkinson show the recognition that the quality of football in League One will rise and there is a need for youthful, exciting talents to be bled into the team.
