It has been a great season so far for Wrexham which currently sees them sitting in second place in League Two.
Ever since Phil Parkinson came into the club, he has taken the Reds forward. First securing National League promotion and now back-to-backs are on the cards.
With that being said, there is a issue with injury right now which sees the centre-back position left quite light, at the time of writing.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, it poses an opportunity to bring someone in to add depth. In saying that, let’s take a look at a loan option, a free agent and a National League star that could be brought in…
Centre-back signings Wrexham should target
1. Josh Feeney
Josh Feeney joined Aston Villa from Fleetwood Town back in 2021. Since then he has gone on to be a centre-back option on the bench for the first team while featuring heavily for their Under 21s.
The Englishman signed a professional contract with the Villans in the summer of 2022. He has made first-team appearances in pre-season fixtures but is yet to make his competitive debut. Since he has signed another contract which committed his future to Villa in the long term.
At 18-years old, he is already adept with the ball at his feet and is good when it comes to passing out from the back. He would provide loan centre-back cover for Wrexham as he develops in senior football.
2. Danny Collinge
Danny Collinge has been a star for National League title chasers, Barnet, this season so far. In 18 league matches this season he has contributed to 11 wins, according to SofaScore.
With six goals this campaign, it is safe to say that he is a threat going forward, for a centre-back, as well as being solid at the back.
Given the fact that Barnet are looking up this season and attempting to challenge Chesterfield for promotion, this one may be hard to pull off. With that being said, he would be a very useful player and a great signing if it gets done.
3. Ro-Shaun Williams
The former Manchester United youngster, Ro-Shaun Williams has been without a club since he was released by Doncaster this summer. In League Two, last season, he made 32 appearances in which he scored once and contributed to six clean sheets.
He had suffered a shin injury which he was seeking help from former coaches to recover from. With that being said, according to the Daily Mail, Williams is attracting interest from various League Two clubs. Given his EFL pedigree and his youth career, he could make for useful depth in Parkinson’s squad for the rest of the season.
