Wrexham beat Notts County this weekend but may now be hoping for a favour from Stuart Maynard’s men this weekend.
This was always going to be a big one after Wrexham’s battles with Notts County in the push for promotion last season.
After a 2-0 win at Meadow Lane earlier this season, Wrexham repeated the trick on Saturday afternoon.
Steven Fletcher’s first-half goal proved to be enough, handing Phil Parkinson a second win in a matter of days.
Wrexham certainly capitalised on both Stockport County and Mansfield Town losing and the promotion race is really ramping up.
Notts County can do Wrexham a favour
We are used to seeing Wrexham and Notts County going head-to-head, almost striking something of a rivalry in recent times.
Wrexham have done the double over Notts County this season but may now be looking for a favour from the Magpies.
Whilst Wrexham head to face Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday night, Notts County’s next game comes against Crewe Alexandra this weekend.
That will be vital game in Wrexham’s season too, as Crewe currently sit level on points with Wrexham in the battle for automatic promotion.
A trip to fifth-placed MK Dons is always tricky, but there is a chance that Wrexham pick up a result on Tuesday and take a one or three-point advantage over Crewe whilst still having a game in hand.
Crewe would then head to Notts County and a slip-up there would certainly play into Wrexham’s hands.
Wrexham fans will be in a rare position of hoping for a Notts County win in that game to boost the push to League One as Parkinson aims to create a gap to fourth place.
Of course, the biggest factor is that Wrexham do their job and get over the line, just as was the case last season.
MK Dons and Gillingham are next up and they are certainly not easy games, but two wins in a row has given a new sense of momentum after a tricky patch for Wrexham.
Those games in hand mean that Wrexham have destiny in their own hands and – hopefully – won’t need to rely on results elswhere.
Every little helps though and just days after beating Notts County, you could hardly blame any Wrexham fan for fancying a favour from Stuart Maynard’s side against Crewe.
