Wrexham duo Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin have seen their futures called into question a fair bit in the last few weeks.
Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer fell out of favour at Wrexham at the beginning of 2025.
The duo featured in a 3-2 defeat to Stevenage at the Racecourse Ground on January 28, but failed to make a single League One appearance in the remainder of the campaign.
The Red Dragons have now secured promotion to the Premier League, with Mullin and Palmer backed for Wrexham exits in the aftermath of the win over Charlton Athletic.
One Sky Sports pundit highlighted why Wrexham could sell Mullin, saying, ‘Wrexham, potentially, given their financial foundations, may want to think that – and this is casting no shade on Paul Mullin – they maybe want to look at someone more established from a Championship point of view’.

Wrexham striker’s records in Championship
It’s perhaps a harsh but fair comment on the club icon, especially when looking at the club’s current strikers and their records in the second tier.
Wrexham have never played in the rebranded version of the Championship, last lining out in England’s second division over 40 years ago.
Some of their current centre-forwards, however, have experience in the competition already going into 2025/26.
Including Elliot Lee, as he played up front a lot in the previous campaign, Wrexham have eight potential centre-forward options.
And all of them, barring Mullin and Palmer, have at least some experience playing in the Championship.
Modou Faal is the only other number nine yet to score in the competition, but that’s to be expected given his age and lack of experience.
| Player | Championship appearances | Goals |
| Steven Fletcher | 196 | 48 |
| Elliot Lee | 29 | 2 |
| Paul Mullin | 0 | 0 |
| Jay Rodriguez | 204 | 66 |
| Sam Smith | 8 | 1 |
| Jack Marriott | 111 | 19 |
| Modou Faal | 1 | 0 |
| Ollie Palmer | 0 | 0 |

Wrexham may need more experience than Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer can offer
Even with two strikers starting every match, eight potential options is probably too many for Parkinson to pick from.
We saw this in 2024/25 when Mullin, Palmer, and Faal found minutes very hard to come by.
Wrexham want to sign a striker in the upcoming summer transfer window as well, which would add even more competition.
As a result, given that Mullin and Palmer are the only two forwards who have never played in the second tier before, it may explain why multiple pundits have been backing the duo to leave after the club’s latest promotion.
