Three Wrexham players Phil Parkinson must axe this summer, including ‘exceptional’ talent

Wrexham are focused on winning promotion to League One and following that, the futures of several first-team players must be resolved.

Wrexham have one of the biggest squads in League Two and Phil Parkinson was forced to leave a few players out when naming his 21-man squad of outfield players.

Parkinson could have named a roster of 22 players but left one space vacant as he waited for Anthony Forde to return from his long-term injury.

There are several players at the club, including Jordan Tunnicliffe, Callum McFadzean and captain Luke Young, who all see their contracts expire in the summer and could depart on a free transfer.

The Reds also have players a few players whose contracts run till 2025. However, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds could let them depart in the summer instead of letting their contract run down.

Here are three players Wrexham should consider selling in the summer…

Anthony Forde

Anthony Forde was a key player for Wrexham in their National League triumph last term, playing 31 times down the right flank.

The Republic of Ireland ace did make 14 appearances in League Two following promotion, but suffered an injury in January, which has sidelined him for several months.

Parkinson has since invested in the right wing-back role with the signing of Luke Bolton, who has competed with Ryan Barnett for a place in the starting XI.

Once he does eventually return, Forde will likely see his minutes limited, especially if they win promotion to the third tier, potentially spelling the end of his Wrexham career.

Sam Dalby

Parkinson’s squad is bloated with striker options and he needs to shift one or two off the wage bill this summer.

Sam Dalby, who sees his contract expire in June 2025, could be one of the players who is made surplus to requirements.

Despite making 29 appearances in League Two, the 24-year-old has only scored once and since Jack Marriott arrived, he’s slipped down to fifth choice in the pecking order.

While he was once hailed as “exceptional”, the Englishman hasn’t been named in a matchday squad for the last four matches and it’s best if he leaves the club in the summer.

Jordan Davies

A hometown hero and a fan favourite at Wrexham, Jordan Davies hasn’t played as much as he would have liked this season.

He’s suffered from several injury niggles while those around him, including Elliot Lee and Andy Cannon, have stepped up and made it difficult for him to break into the side.

The former Wales under-19 international is undoubtedly talented and has shown glimpses of his class this term with goals against Salford City and MK Dons in the league.

Unfortunately, though, opportunities have been at a premium and if Wrexham get promoted, his chances of featuring would lessen.

Perhaps controversially, Wrexham could look to cash in on the 25-year-old this summer, especially if they reach League One.
