Wrexham are facing plenty of competition to land some of their top targets during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward have signed for Wrexham already this summer, but more incomings are expected.

Lewis O’Brien is a target, and the Red Dragons have been handed a boost on that front now that Hull City, also in for the midfielder, have been hit with a transfer ban this week.

Getting deals over the line is proving more challenging than expected for the Welsh side, however.

Harry Darling has joined Norwich City after both Phil Parkinson’s side and Birmingham City were in for the free agent.

Elsewhere, Birmingham beat Wrexham to Tommy Doyle, confirming the signing of the midfielder this week.

Meanwhile, another summer target of the Welsh side has dropped a big hint about his future.

Wrexham target set for trials with Championship club

It emerged in June that Wrexham were interested in signing Shay Reid of Cliftonville.

Just 16 years of age, the forward was the top scorer in the U20 Premiership Development League in Northern Ireland in 2024/25, notching a very impressive 23 goals in 32 appearances for his club.

When rumours of Wrexham’s interest first emerged, it was reported that Celtic and Preston North End were also looking at the attacker.

Now, an update from Éire Guide has said that the Scottish club remains in contact with the player.

However, they added that Reid is now set to go on trial with the aforementioned Preston.

Wrexham plan investment in youngsters

Wrexham had plans approved to build a new academy, with the club looking to invest in the next generation.

Parkinson commented on the youth academy plans recently, saying: “So we, or they [Reynolds and McElhenney] and the staff are putting a structure together to give us a great chance, and we know that the academy going forward is going to be crucial for us, because we need to produce our own players.

“But as much as we’re playing catchup at first-team level, we’ve had to play catchup in the academy as well, because we’ve only just started it for two years and we’re competing against established teams with category one academies.”

Meanwhile, Wrexham are linked to Jayden Carbon, a 19-year-old who enjoyed a breakthrough 2024/25 with Oxford City.
