Wrexham will now head into a rather exciting transfer window after securing promotion to League One on Saturday afternoon.
We have to say a big thank you to Mansfield Town, who beat Milton Keynes Dons 4-1 on Saturday.
That victory meant Wrexham’s 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers proved to be a promotion-winning one.
Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin had the STōK Cae Ras buzzing with excitement as Wrexham went 2-0 up against League Two’s bottom side.
Mullin added another after a Ryan Inniss own goal, leaving Wrexham 4-0 up before the half-time whistle even sounded.
Ryan Barnett and Jack Marriott scored in the second half too, putting the cherry on top of the icing on top of the Wrexham cake.
Promotion is all wrapped up now and whilst Wrexham still have a couple of games to go, plans for next season can now really get started.
Wrexham players want Arthur Okonkwo signed
That includes the summer transfer window, with Wrexham now looking to secure big signings.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds won’t want the club’s progress to half any time soon and Phil Parkinson will surely have some additions in mind.
One of them may already be in the building with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo shining this season.
The giant shot stopper has been consistently excellent for Wrexham having joined on loan from Arsenal.
Okonkwo is out of contract at Arsenal this summer and Wrexham will surely make him a top priority with a permanent deal no doubt being considered.
Okonkwo has now taken to social media to celebrate Wrexham’s promotion – and the post has been hijacked by both Ryan Barnett and James McClean.
Barnett stated ‘sign da ting’ with McClean adding ‘sign the contract big boy’ as the Wrexham duo called on Okonkwo to commit his future to the club.
The contract probably isn’t even on the table for Okonkwo to sign yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see that offer come very soon…
Arsenal stance on Okonkwo
Okonkwo has been on the Arsenal books since the age of just eight but has never made a first-team appearance for the Gunners.
After loan spells at Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz, Okonkwo now appears to have found a potential home at Wrexham.
The 22-year-old would be an enormous signing for Wrexham, not just for the sake of continuity after this season, but also because of the potential future resale value.
Crucially, Football London reported earlier this season that Arsenal have no plans to give Okonkwo a new deal and they will allow him to leave.
Maybe Arsenal’s plans have changed with Okonkwo playing so well this season, but it looks like the time has come for him to leave North London.
We would love to see Okonkwo stay at Wrexham and become a star for years to come, but there will surely be rival interest after a fine season.
Let’s just hope that Barnett and McClean can help convince him to sign on.
