Wrexham look to be gearing up for a frantic final week of the transfer window, after a very subdued one so far.
So far this month, Wrexham’s only signing is goalkeeper Luke McNicholas from Sligo Rovers.
Many expected the Dragons to be hard at work this month, and they have been, but actual signings have been much lower than what fans might have expected.
The same could be said of their summer transfer window going into this season. But Phil Parkinson‘s side have proved that they already had a lot of quality, with a second-successive promotion on the cards.
And with a few new faces in the final week of the window, Wrexham could further bolster their promotion bid.
Richard Sutcliffe says Wrexham are working hard on player signings
Writing for The Athletic, Wrexham correspondent Richard Sutcliffe revealed that the Dragons are still hard at work in the transfer market, and that the club have in fact submitted bids for a number of players.
Sutcliffe wrote:
“Bids have already been lodged amid a host of enquiries about players rated by the coaching staff. As with previous windows, multiple players are on the list for a specific position despite only one being wanted.”
He also added that the club want to add a new striker before the February 1st deadline and that the club has a number of targets in this position, with one being Wigan Athletic striker Stephen Humphrys.

EFL clubs gearing up for a frantic finale
It seems like this January transfer window has been a subdued one in general.
Teams in the Football League and in the Premier League too haven’t been as busy as they usually are at this time of year, and with many teams yet to make many signings, like Wrexham, a frantic deadline day could be in the offing.
And with the Dragons having bids in for players, it could mean that Wrexham are busier than most, with a new striker not looking like the only priority for Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds‘ side.
The same report from The Athletic also adds that a defender and midfielder is wanted too, so we could yet see a fair few arrivals at the racecourse Ground in the final week or so of the transfer window.
Up next for Wrexham is an exciting FA Cup clash away at Championship side Blackburn Rovers; it’ll be a true test of Wrexham’s mettle and an insight into how they might one day fare in the higher leagues of the English Football League.
