Wrexham continue to hunt for summer signings but one potential addition has now been officially ruled out.

Wrexham needed reinforcements after winning promotion to League One.

The rapid rise of the club has been incredible to witness and fans can’t wait to witness the next step of the journey with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

There is a reality about Wrexham’s squad though and it certainly needs strengthening ahead of the League One campaign.

Wrexham have now secured a first signing of the summer with Arthur Okonkwo returning to the STōK Cae Ras on a permanent basis.

That is an outstanding first signing but Wrexham still need more recruits to bolster Phil Parkinson’s squad.

Wrexham won’t be signing Josh Magennis

Wrexham have been linked with a handful of names since winning promotion from League One.

One of them was striker Josh Magennis, who has been let go by Wigan Athletic this summer.

The veteran striker worked under Parkinson at Bolton Wanderers but they weren’t always on perfect terms with each other.

A reunion was thought to be in Wrexham’s plans but Magennis will not be joining the club.

Rumours last week suggested that Exeter City were closing in on Magennis – and they have now confirmed the move.

The Northern Ireland international has penned a one-year deal with the Grecians ahead of the new season.

Exeter boss Gary Caldwell certainly appears to be excited having spoken about the move on Exeter’s official website.

Caldwell noted that Magennis had ‘plenty of options’ elsewhere, with Wrexham potentially one of them.

Caldwell added that Magennis is a ‘real proven goalscorer’ and believes that his experience will really help Exeter moving forward.

“Josh is someone that had plenty of options this summer but has chosen to come to Exeter City, and of course we are delighted with that,” said Caldwell. “He is a real proven goalscorer at this level, and the level above, as well as having great international pedigree with Northern Ireland. His experience will be of huge benefit to our younger forwards such as Sonny Cox and Milli Alli,” he added.

Magennis set to face Wrexham

Ever since the Magennis rumours emerged, we have consistently suggested that a deal would only make sense if Steven Fletcher was moving on.

Adding another experienced, physical centre forward just didn’t make sense unless Fletcher was moving on.

The Scot has now signed a new deal with Wrexham and Magennis will be playing against Parkinson rather than for him.

The League One fixture list is out and Wrexham will first meet Magennis and Exeter in November, hosting them at the STōK Cae Ras on the 23rd.

Wrexham will then head down to Devon for the return fixture on March 29th as the season draws towards its close.

Magennis will be a players to keep an eye on in those games with Parkinson no doubt aware of what he can provide in the final third.
