James joined the Manchester United academy at a young age and enjoyed success early on, making his Under-18s debut at just 14 years old.
The midfielder would then go on to become a regular for the Red Devils reserve side before receiving his first senior call-up in 2009.
Despite being in multiple matchday squads, James would never make it onto the field for Man United and would eventually be loaned out to Preston North End on separate occasions.
