Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson has asked for patience when it comes to the January transfer window, comparing it to previous years.

It has been a quiet transfer window for Wrexham which is yet to see them bring in any new winter signings.

This season has been superb for the Reds which may mean there is a lesser need for additional players in this window.

Following promotion from the National League last season, Phil Parkinson’s side have gone from strength to strength. They currently occupy second place in the league with back-to-back promotions in their sights.

As a result, some incoming players to provide some additional strength in depth could be preferable this month.

With it being as quiet as it has been, Parkinson has now provided yet another January update regarding potential moves.

Parkinson compares this January to prior windows

In recent windows, since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney came in, Wrexham have been considerate in their signings.

This has seen them make a preference toward signing good quality players while not overpaying for their services.

Discussing this point with Leader Live, Parkinson has discussed previous windows and how the Reds looked at making signings.

On that, he said: “If you look at the Elliot Lee signing a couple of summers ago, we tried to get Elliot early in the summer and it didn’t quite happen.

“The summer dragged on and we had the chance to sign other players in that position to take up the budget we wanted to spend on Elliot.”

The signing of Lee has been nothing short of a great success as he helped fire Wrexham to promotion. He has now become a top-quality star in League Two.

According to FotMob, he has 13 goals and three assists in 25 appearances so far this campaign. This makes him their top scorer by three goals ahead of Paul Mullin.

Continuing in a similar vein, Parkinson added: “We kept saying we want to give that opportunity to get the best one in out target list and that one proved the same as George Evans; the top end of what we wanted and it is a bit of a game of poker.”

Evans has been another signing that has been a surefire success and has played a big part in the Reds side this season.

If Parkinson waits until later in this January window to make a signing and they prove to be as successful as these two, there will be no complaints. It is a tough time to make incoming transfers but we will wait so see if any can be made.
