Wrexham could make a move for Blackpool midfielder Matty Virtue this summer, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed.
The 26-year-old came through the academy at Liverpool, and scored 12 times in 51 games for their under-21 side before dropping down to the EFL.
He spent last season on loan at Lincoln City in League One, where he impressed in 36 appearances, and is now being targeted by Phil Parkinson’s side.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs revealed that Wrexham could use their current project to target more players in higher divisions to drop down, and Virtue may be the next player they target.
“I think that there will be a fair few players that Wrexham might look at signing on loan if they want to drop down and be part of the Hollywood experience as well,” he stated.
“From the things that I’m hearing, there is a possibility that Wrexham might move for Matty Virtue, who is a 26-year-old midfielder at Blackpool.
“That could be one to watch. He spent last season on loan with Lincoln and did pretty well.”
Would Virtue be a good signing?
Attracting a midfielder who performed well in League One last season would be yet more ambitious business from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and it would continue to help prepare the squad for back-to-back promotions.

Having more players capable of playing at a higher level within the team will help Wrexham cope with the step up in quality from the National League, and as the odds-on favourites for automatic promotion, it would help in the long-term as the squad will be capable of competing in League One.
The defensive midfielder has plenty of experience in the English lower divisions with Lincoln, Blackpool and Notts County, and could be an excellent addition in what has been a fairly quiet summer window for the Red Dragons.
