Wrexham are interested in snapping up Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff after securing promotion to League One.

Phil Parkinson and co have secured automatic promotion from League Two and will be looking to strengthen.

Parkinson has already admitted that Wrexham need to get the recruitment right this summer, highlighting a ‘big test’ ahead.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is a confirmed target after a successful loan spell from Arsenal and Wrexham will really start moving with recruitment after this weekend’s final-day clash with Stockport County.

Parkinson has a host of strikers at his disposal with Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer continuing their partnership.

Sam Dalby, veteran Steven Fletcher and January signing Jack Marriott are still in the mix too but Wrexham have an interest in another striker.

Wrexham want Macaulay Langstaff

Sources indicate that Wrexham are interested in signing Notts County forward Macaulay Langstaff.

It’s understood that Wrexham wanted Langstaff last summer and would have made a move had Notts County not also won promotion from the National League.

Whilst Wrexham have now accelerated to League One, County finished 14th in League Two despite Langstaff’s 28 league goals.

Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United also have Langstaff on their radars and this move would not come cheap for Wrexham.

A club-record move would be required to tempt Notts County into selling their prized striker this summer.

Wrexham’s current transfer record stands at the £300,000 spent on luring striker Ollie Palmer to the STōK Cae Ras.

Langstaff is expected to cost more than that given that he still has three years left on his contract, leaving Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds to dig deep for his signature.

What Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds said about Langstaff

Langstaff was a thorn in Wrexham’s side during the 2022-23 National League season.

The 27-year-old scored the only goal of the game as Notts County beat Wrexham 1-0 in October 2022.

Langstaff bagged 42 league goals in that campaign, meaning Wrexham’s push for promotion was always under threat from eventual play-off winners County.

Wrexham certainly knew all about Langstaff’s threat and his goalscoring prowess was noted on the hit documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

“God that guy is good. He looks like he could be in Peaky Blinders,” said Reynolds in Series 2, Episode 12.

“I’m not going to enjoy watching him play,” added McElhenney.

Langstaff took the comments well, telling Sky Sports that they were ‘brilliant’ and ‘really funny’, even if he couldn’t bring himself to watch the full episode given the heartbreak Notts County suffered in that promotion race.
