Wrexham remain firmly in the hunt for Premier League promotion in their first Championship season.

The Red Dragons have risen quickly through the English football structure, climbing from the National League to the second tier with three straight promotions.

Phil Parkinson’s team now aim for a remarkable fourth in a row. After 26 matches they sit just one point outside the play-off places, keeping another step up firmly within reach.

The January transfer window could be decisive in that pursuit. It gives Wrexham a key opportunity to strengthen their first team squad and sustain momentum into the run-in.

Here’s the latest on transfer developments with the market open until 2 February.

Wrexham eye £2.6m Hammarby deal

Wrexham are among the clubs pursuing Hammarby defender Hampus Skoglund this month.

According to Football Insider, the Red Dragons face competition from Bundesliga side Mainz. The full-back is valued at around £2.6 million although it remains uncertain whether Wrexham can convince him to join their Championship campaign.

Mainz are currently viewed as frontrunners but no final decision has been made on the player’s next move.

Phil Parkinson opens up on Paul Mullin decision

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin saw his loan at Wigan Athletic end earlier this month after scoring four goals in 20 League One appearances.

Phil Parkinson has spoken about Mullin’s return, confirming that discussions over his future will take place once he rejoins training this week.

The 31-year-old has missed a few days and will be reintegrated into first team sessions before any final decision on his next step is made.

“Mulls’ loan spell has been terminated,” said Parkinson, via the BBC.

“We’ll have a chat with him this week when he comes back in.

“He needs to train this week as he’s missed a few days of training.”

Wrexham eye £14 million striker deal

Alan Nixon reports that Wrexham are preparing a record-breaking £14 million offer for a top European striker.

The club are keeping negotiations private as they work to complete the move. However they are ready to match competing wage offers to strengthen their attacking options before the window closes.

Football Insider reports that the Red Dragons have no plans to approve his departure from the Racecourse Ground this month.

Windass joined on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield Wednesday in the summer. So far he has produced seven goals and three assists in 22 league matches under Parkinson. The club are said to want him to remain for the rest of the campaign.
