Wrexham are set to go on a scouting mission this weekend, in the game between Newport County and Manchester United on Sunday.

Wrexham have endured a very subdued January transfer window so far with the signing of Luke McNicholas from Sligo Rovers being their only bit of business so far.

But the Dragons have a few irons in the fire and Phil Parkinson‘s side could get a few new faces through the doors before February 1st.

And another new name has emerged on their radar; Newport County midfielder Shane McLoughlin.

An emerging report from Football Insider has revealed that Wrexham are set to undergo a scouting mission in the FA Cup fourth round clash between Newport County and Manchester United tomorrow.

Wrexham’s Welsh rivals Newport host Manchester United tomorrow afternoon, and Football Insider say that representatives from Wrexham, Rotherham United, Lincoln City, and Wycombe Wanderers will be watching over Newport midfielder McLoughlin.

Former Bromley, Ipswich Town, AFC Wimbledon, Morecambe, and Salford City midfielder McLoughlin has impressed this season, with three goals an five assists in 28 League Two outings.

McLoughlin could be the final piece in the puzzle for Wrexham

Wrexham are really starting to look like they’ll go on and claim promotion this season, or at least finish inside the top four, and with a few new faces in the final days of the window, they’ll set themselves up nicely for the second half of the season.

And whilst defence remains a bit leaky and form can be inconsistent at times, Parkinson still seems like he needs a player like McLoughlin to link up the defence and attack, and also take some of the strain off Elliot Lee who’s not scored since before Christmas.

And McLoughlin would do exactly that; he’s a dependable midfielder who can score and create goals, and he’s at a good age at 26 years old.

Also, after a turbulent few years playing for a few different teams, he may well be eager to set out on a new career challenge like Wrexham, which is proving to be a very attractive place for a lot of footballers right now.

Wrexham fans may well have one eye on their Welsh rivals Newport County and McLoughlin as they go up against Manchester United tomorrow, before a trip to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Monday.
