Wrexham are set to strengthen their squad in this transfer window, but will not make wholesale changes to their playing squad, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed.
The Red Dragons won promotion from the National League in style last season, returning to League Two for the first time since 2008, and have one of the most ambitious projects in the whole of the EFL.
Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are targeting multiple promotions to bring Wrexham to the Premier League, but first need to tackle the challenge of League Two.
They have made just one addition in defender Will Boyle, but will not make major changes to their squad this summer.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs outlined what the next step is for Wrexham in this transfer window.
“The beauty of the Wrexham project is that they could add players at this level in the last campaign because of the money and ambition of the ownership group,” he stated.
“So, it’s not like the Wrexham perspective is that they need a massive rebuild. They feel like they’ve got a competitive squad, and competitive not just to stay up but to go up.”
Do Wrexham need to spend big this summer?
Wrexham significantly outspent the rest of the National League in the last two seasons, which enabled them to bring in quality players such as Paul Mullin, who were capable of playing at a higher division level.
Their squad is now full of players who can definitely compete in League Two as a result, and unlike other promotion-winning sides, they do not need to fear relegation this season.

In fact, Wrexham are the odds-on favourites to secure promotion from League Two with their current squad, and with players such as Mullin and Ben Foster within their ranks, they do not need to tear up and rebuild their team just yet.
If Phil Parkinson’s side find themselves struggling by the time they reach the January transfer window, they may look to invest more into their squad, but as it stands it seems they will only make a handful of signings and stick with their current options.
