Wrexham could move to sign a defender this summer and one target has some history alongside Paul Mullin.

The summer transfer window is about to kick off and Wrexham are expected to be busy.

Phil Parkinson has guided Wrexham to yet another promotion, bringing another crucial window in the transfer market.

Reports suggest Wrexham are willing to spend big this summer, potentially even rivalling relegated clubs Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton.

Rob McElhenney believes there is more success to come for Wrexham and he looks set to back another big window alongside Ryan Reynolds.

Speculation is already beginning to ramp up, and we have seen Wrexham linked with two central defenders in recent days.

Wrexham target Harry Darling knows Paul Mullin well

The first rumour saw Wrexham linked with Maksym Talovierov after Plymouth Argyle’s relegation to League One.

Another name emerged on Sunday as reports suggested Wrexham want Swansea City’s Harry Darling.

Birmingham City are also keen, whilst Swansea City have offered Darling a new deal in the hope of keeping hold of the centre-back.

Darling is now a proven Championship centre-back, having previously featured in League Two and League One with Cambridge United and Milton Keynes Dons respectively.

Darling crossed paths with Paul Mullin during his time at Cambridge, featuring together in 2020.

Cambridge went on to win promotion in 2021 with Mullin banging in the goals, but Darling left for MK Dons in the January of that season.

Darling could now reunite with Mullin at Wrexham, having previously called the striker a ‘nightmare’ to come up against.

Speaking to Cambridgeshire Live back in 2020, Darling hailed Mullin as a ‘really good striker’, praising his competitive nature.

Darling didn’t love facing Mullin in games or in training, suggesting that he was a real nuisance.

“He’s (Mullin) a nightmare to play and train against,” said Darling.

“He’s a really good striker. He’s always running, always competitive. He’s done really well and made a really good impact,” he added.

Mullin may see Darling join Wrexham this summer, but the pair may not be together for too long.

Mullin has been frozen out at Wrexham in 2025 and may leave the STōK Cae Ras this summer.

The striker would sign off as a hero and would surely talk incredibly highly of Wrexham if Darling asked for his advice on a move.

Wrexham centre back state of play

Rumours surrounding Talovierov and Darling emerging within a few days of each other is certainly interesting.

Wrexham appear to be interested in signing a new centre-back, as Parkinson looks to cope with the increased quality from Championship attackers.

Max Cleworth is the clear first-choice on the right side of defence and Eoghan O’Connell was a rock for most of the season.

Dan Scarr excelled in the final stages of the campaign, and Lewis Brunt showed off his potential on the left side of defence, despite being right-footed.

We would expect Will Boyle to move on this summer and the future of Thomas O’Connor is something of an unknown.

O’Connor would be Wrexham’s only naturally left-footed centre-back if Boyle moves on, but he was in and out of the team this season.

We would expect at least one centre-back to arrive this summer, but Wrexham will have a number of targets in mind in case more than one is required ahead of next season.
