Wrexham fell to their first defeat since September against Accrington Stanley this weekend. In spite of this George Evans continued to shine for the Reds.
On Saturday afternoon, Wrexham travelled to face Accrington Stanley as they looked to extend their unbeaten run.
Unfortunately for Phil Parkinson’s side, the result didn’t go as planned. The Reds fell to their first defeat in two months.
Goals from Tommy Leigh and Rosaire Longelo helped Stanley to secure all three points. After coming on for Thomas O’Connor, Will Boyle gave away a penalty for the opener.
The result saw the Reds fall to fourth in League Two, despite being second prior to kick-off.
Although there was some disappointment from fans over the result and poor performances, one player’s form was kept up.
How did George Evans perform?
The midfielder signed from Milwall on deadline day in the summer transfer window and has been in top form so far.
This has even seen Rob McEhlenney show his fondness towards the versatile Englishman via Twitter.
With a 7.7 SofaScore rating, Evans stood out amongst his teammates as his consistent performances were kept up.
Nearly 70 touches, 34 completed passes and 10 interceptions and recoveries, it was an all-action defensive midfield performance.
With that he had the most completed passes out of any player on the pitch, while also being fouled the most of anyone.
He was fouled and won a penalty late in the day which saw Paul Mullin have the chance to half the deficit. The Welshman missed the spot-kick, but that doesn’t take away from the efforts of Evans.
The versatile defensive-minded man has been a consistently good performer and in recent weeks has become integral to Parkinson’s side.
He has been a top-class signing so far and hopefully, his form can continue and play his part in a successful campaign.
