Andy Cannon starred in Wrexham’s 4-1 thrashing of Crawley Town and has waxed lyrical about one of his teammates.
On Tuesday night, Wrexham dismantled Crawley Town 4-1 to put them on the brink of reaching League One.
Phil Parkinson‘s men understood the assignment against the play-off chasers, ordering his players to press them from the get-go and break with pace on the counter.
Crawley had just thrashed promotion rivals Mansfield Town however, the Reds proved too hot to handle as Paul Mullin continued his exceptional scoring form. He scored a brace to take his tally to 23 goals for the season and 11 in his last 10 League Two matches.
The Liverpool-born goal machine stole the headlines alongside teammate Andy Cannon, who registered a goal and an assist on the night.
Cannon is quietly becoming a Player of the Season contender due to his consistent midfield displays, with the 28-year-old also reserving some praise for one of his teammates.
Andy Cannon hails Wrexham teammate as ‘absolutely superb’
Cannon has risen to prominence as a fan favourite at Wrexham as his all-round midfield performances since arriving from Hull City have caught the eye.
The midfield machine is a mainstay in Parkinson’s starting XI having played 32 matches in the fourth tier this term, much like centre-back Max Cleworth.
In his breakthrough campaign at Football League level, many – including former Wrexham striker Andy Morrell – have been left impressed by the 21-year-old.
Transitioning into League Two football incredibly well, the young defender has made himself undroppable in the heart of the defence, with Cannon now lauding him for his display against Crawley.
“Max’s was a big goal on Saturday, and I think he’s deserved it, he’s been absolutely superb since he’s come in the team,” Cannon told Wrexham’s official YouTube channel.

Max Cleworth can step up to League One
Cannon isn’t the only player to praise Cleworth, with fellow teammate Will Boyle claiming the youngster can play at Championship level.
With Wrexham on the verge of sealing promotion to third tier, inquests will start over who can make the step up.
Luckily, Parkinson’s squad is brimming with talent and Cleworth is heading that list of players.
The youngster has all the tools to become a success in League One, including his ability to carry the ball from defence, read the game to intercept and use his turn of pace to keep up with attackers.
Cleworth has a bright future in the game and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see several Championship and League One clubs attempt to prise him away from Wrexham this summer.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds must take a firm stance by offering their most valuable youngster a new contract.
