Paul Mullin was on top of his game in the win over Yeovil Town this weekend and can count himself as unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet.
Yeovil travelled to face Wrexham this weekend, with a place in the third round of the FA Cup on the line for the winner.
Last season, Phil Parkinson’s side gave a good account of themselves in the FA Cup and will be looking to do the same again.
They did just that as they secured a 3-0 win over a good Town side to remain in the competition.
With goals from Ollie Palmer, Andy Cannon and Sam Dalby, the Reds’ progress was confirmed in convincing fashion.
One man who made an impact was Paul Mullin, even though he never managed to get himself involved in the goals. Surprisingly.
How good was Paul Mullin?
The Welshman featured for 88 minutes of action and it is quite surprising that he never got amongst the goals or assists. According to SofaScore, he was still worthy of a 7.2 rating, despite his lack of return in front of goal.
Mullin only had 40 touches throughout the game but was able to do a lot with the ball in that short time. 83% pass accuracy and four key passes help to sum up his attacking numbers. This helped him to create four chances for his teammates, which weren’t taken. The four chances were the most on the pitch created by anyone, so good going by Mullin.
The striker himself had three shots but could only manage to get one of those on target as two flew wide. This saw him register just 0.34 xGOT, which Mullin may expect better of given his standard and goalscoring pedigree.
Although his dribbling and crossing probably wasn’t up to scratch on the day, it is unfortunate he didn’t register anything on the board.
Everybody knows the ability he possesses and, although he may be disappointed not to score, the performance was incredibly positive. On a personal level, and as a whole club, the result was great.
Moving forward, it is likely that Mullin will want more goals and more assists. But performances like this won’t dent the chances of those numbers rising.
A positive performance from all in Red and none more so than Super Paul Mullin once again.
