Following Wrexham’s terrific 6-0 win over Morecambe there has been plenty of praise for their stars. One of the key men on the day was George Evans once again.
George Evans signed for Wrexham over the summer as he departed Championship side, Millwall for League Two.
The versatile Englishman has become a staple of Phil Parkinson’s side in recent weeks and has been in terrific form.
In spite of the general bellow par performance and defeat to Accrington Stanley, Evans was still able to stand out. He won the penalty which gave the Reds a chance to half the deficit, but it wasn’t taken.
This time around, the Reds were on top of their game against a good Morecambe side. Thanks to a Paul Mullin hattrick and wonder goals from Jacob Mendy and James Jones, a win was easily secured.
Despite the game being extremely positive from an offensive point of view, the opposition still had their chances. As a result, the defence had to be on top of their game.
What has been said about George Evans?
Since signing from Millwall, Evans has been a revelation with his defensive stability and ability on the ball. This was shown off against Accrington but was even more apparent at The Racecourse against Morecambe.

In Leader Live’s player ratings, they were full of praise for every player on the pitch for the Reds. Evans was up there with one of the best for Parkinson’s side.
On that, it was said: “Superb performance in midfield, ran the show alongside Cannon in the middle of the park.”
That he did. With Cannon returning to the starting XI, he too proved his worth in this extremely competitive Wrexham side. With Elliot Lee adding to the midfield conversation, it is safe to say the middle of the park was stacked with talent.
How good was he?
The former Manchester City man put in a characteristic performance that fans at The Racecourse have been getting used to in weeks gone by.
Despite only registering a 6.7 rating on SofaScore, his performance was consistent and contributed heavily to the win.
Himself and Aaron Hayden had the two most touches in a red shirt while Evans completed the most passes on the pitch. The thing that makes the midfielder so good is that he doesn’t overcomplicate things, he just does his job.
With 84 touches, one block, one clearance and six recoveries it is safe to say that he did that against Morecambe.
Wrexham are back on the winning trail and Evans has continued his great form since signing. Long may the form and his performances improve for the remainder of the campaign.
