Wrexham team news ahead of Southampton clash

There has been very little change on the injury front for Wrexham since their last game against FC Groningen.

Ollie Rathbone is out long-term, while Jay Rodriguez is also going to miss the season opener against his former club.

Jack Marriott had his appendix removed last week and will be very unlikely to play in the near future, especially considering his position in the pecking order. The same goes for Andy Cannon, who is back in training but still lacking fitness.

It’ll be touch and go as to whether Sam Smith features. The striker was short on fitness all summer and didn’t feature in pre-season, but could be ready to go again now.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on all the players that could make their Wrexham debut this weekend, with Josh Windass and Lewis O’Brien most likely to start.

Wrexham vs Southampton head-to-head record

Wrexham and Southampton have actually only played each other seven times in their entire history. The Saints have four wins, while the Red Dragons have three.

However, the two sides have not faced one another since 1979, when Southampton trounced Wrexham 8-0 on aggregate across two legs in the League Cup.

Southampton vs Wrexham score predictions

EFL expert Sam Parkin believes we’ll get an exciting game on Saturday, but he also predicts Southampton will win 3-1.

Meanwhile, the team at EFL Analysis predict a 2-0 win for Southampton, with a bit of a reality check on the cards for Wrexham.

Clearly, Wrexham are in for a tough game. Will Still’s side have looked good in pre-season, and Parkinson will surely be worried about the gap in quality on Saturday.
