Wrexham suffered defeat in their pre-season friendly against Sydney FC on Tuesday, losing 2-1.
Wrexham beat Melbourne Victory in their opening pre-season friendly on their Wrexham Down Under tour. But Phil Parkinson’s side fell to a rather miserable defeat in the second against Sydney FC.
An own goal gave the Dragons the lead but they conceded either side of half-time as Wrexham lost 2-1 against Sydney FC in the end.
Whilst the result was a worry in itself, with Parkinson’s side looking alarmingly under-prepared for the Championship as things stand, there was another separate worry for fans just before the break as Ollie Rathbone was forced off.

What happened to Ollie Rathbone during Wrexham’s loss at Sydney FC?
Just before the break, Wrexham’s 2024/25 Player of the Season Rathbone was forced off with an injury after he landed awkwardly.
The extent of the injury isn’t known as of yet but expect Parkinson to address it at some point after the game, with plenty of fans surely worried to discover whether Rathbone will miss the start of the new season.
They’ll certainly hope not: the 28-year-old scored eight goals and assisted three more in 41 League One games as the Dragons achieved a 2nd place finish in the end.

What the Wrexham fans are saying after Ollie Rathbone’s injury vs Sydney FC
After watching the incident, one Wrexham fan online posted: “Rathbone is hurt, he landed weirdly. Not good,” as a similar comment read: “Yikes, not good to see.”
Others weighed in, too. “Looked a bad one that,” said one Wrexham fan online, as another added: “Hope it’s not serious.”
Meanwhile, this supporter wrote: “Let’s hope that Rathbone’s injury isn’t as bad as it looked, we don’t have much luck with injuries on these pre-season tours do we.”
Wrexham next play Wellington Phoenix on the 19th in what is their final game down under.
