This weekend Wrexham welcomes Newport County to The Racecourse knowing a win could take them to second. Here is our predicted XI…
Wrexham have an excellent start to life back in League Two which sees them in third place, nearly at the halfway point.
Under the management of Phil Parkinson, the Reds have looked like a seasoned EFL side this campaign. With a blend of National League stars and new signings, his side looks like back-to-back promotion is possible.
This coming weekend, Newport County travel across Wales to The Racecourse in a derby that hasn’t been played since December 2018’s FA Cup. Prior to that, it hadn’t been contested since March 1988 so it is a new fixture for the EFL.

Looking towards Saturday’s fixture, let’s take a look at our predicted XI for Wrexham vs Newport County…
Wrexham Predicted XI
Following the injury to Arthur Okonkwo, Wrexham have fallen back on an experienced figure. In Mark Howard, they have a more than able deputy. He will reprise his role in between the sticks for the Reds as he has in recent weeks. We suggest he should stay in the starting XI.
The back three is likely to feature a change. With George Evans being suspended, Tom O’Connor is likely to step up into midfield to cover. This will leave a space open for Will Boyle to make his return to the starting XI. Alongside him, Ben Tozer and Eoghan O’Connell will reprise their roles at the heart of the Wrexham defence.
In wide areas, James McClean and Jacob Mendy can retake their positions in left and right wing-back respectively. Their form in recent weeks has been positive and against Colchester United the Irishman picked up a 7.3 FotMob rating.
In midfield, O’Connor will step up into midfield for our predicted XI. Alongside him will be the ever-consistent duo of Elliot Lee and Andy Cannon who have been superb this season. The base of the midfield is a talking point but we suggest O’Connor.
Upfront, the conversation is constantly going on. With Paul Mullin, the Reds have a consistent goalscorer who will start up front. Alongside him, Sam Dalby started last time out but was substituted at half time. This was due to the red card so we suggest, in our predicted XI, he will come in to start once again.
Wrexham predicted XI: Howard, Mendy, Boyle, Tozer, O’Connell, McClean, O’Connor, Cannon, Lee, Mullin Dalby
