Following Wrexham’s win over Colchester, Eoghan O’Connell has been picked out for his performance after two months out.

This weekend, Wrexham welcomed Colchester United and came away with a win despite being down to 10 men.

It was a quick start from Phil Parkinson’s side as Elliot Lee opened the scoring after just four minutes. A Zach Mitchell own goal doubled their advantage.

Despite a George Evans red card and a late Jayden Fevrier goal, the Reds were able to see out the game and secure three points.

This saw a solid defensive performance needed as the away side dominated possession and created plenty of chances.

With that being said, one man has been singled out for praise following his performance in his return fixture.

What has been said about Eoghan O’Connell?

It has been two months since Wrexham fans saw Eoghan O’Connell on the pitch for the Reds but he made his return this weekend.

With Evans sent off for a second yellow card, the need for a good defensive performance was heightened. Luckily, the Irishman was on top of his game on the day. This saw Leader Live give the defender an 8/10 rating for his showing.

On that, they said: “Returned after nearly two months out injured and was rock solid at the back. Also decent with the ball.”

His defensive showing was top class as he made four clearances, made two recoveries and won two of his duels. He was also a threat going forward as his one shot was on target but was saved by Owen Goodman in goal.

It must be said that he may be disappointed to have not taken away a clean sheet. Although, he had been taken off before the goal was conceded.

It has felt like a long time since he was on the pitch at The Racecourse but with the defensive issues his return is a boost.

The January transfer window looks like centre-back options may be considered but O’Connell has staked his claim for the place. With performances like that he will be in the conversation to start more often, that is for sure.
