Wrexham secured a win against Salford City in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night but it wasn’t all sunshine and roses during the game.

Wrexham extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five as Phil Parkinson’s men secured a 2-1 victory over Salford in the EFL Trophy.

Paul Mullin scored a pearler of a goal on his first start of the season while defender Will Boyle netted the winner seven minutes from time after Conor McAleny equalised for the visitors.

Parkinson was left impressed by youngster Harry Ashfield, who looked the part in his 12-minute cameo, while co-owner Rob McElhenney was left displeased by the EFL despite the victory.

Rob McElhenney hits out at the EFL after Wrexham’s win vs Salford City

Supporters who attended the match at the Racecourse Ground would have gone home happy, as a completely changed starting XI secured all three points in their first group game.

Unfortunately, similar can’t be said for the people who were watching the action on the EFL’s iFollow coverage, as complaints were aimed at how poor the quality of the stream was.

One fan posted a video on X of the screen and audio buffering, which made it impossible to understand what was happening.

McElhenney – who also watches Wrexham matches from the United States – was left fuming by the EFL and questioned why the coverage was worse this year than in the last two.

Fans who are watching from overseas can purchase a Wrexham Video Pass on iFollow for £140, meaning they can access all of their 46 league matches and EFL Trophy action.

Understandably, when paying that amount of money, supporters expect a decent level of coverage. It was therefore no surprise to see McElhenney and many Wrexham supporters hit out at the EFL for the poor quality stream.

The EFL need to fix this issue for Wrexham fans

Wrexham helped pioneer the EFL’s record-breaking TV deal with their huge global fanbase but supporters on this occasion have been let down by the streaming service.

A lot of the fans tuning in to watch the Welsh side are coming from abroad. It was revealed previously that 5,000 US households watched Wrexham in League Two, and that number will have no doubt increased following promotion.

Many supporters rely on iFollow to watch Parkinson’s side in action however, after seeing the complaints flood in, the EFL must quickly resolve this issue or risk losing customers.

McElhenney, one of the most well-known owners in English football, can help himself and others by sharing his displeasure with the coverage, something he’s already done with his tweet on X.

In what could promise to be a record-breaking campaign, as Wrexham target silverware and a third successive promotion, fans watching on iFollow will want the quality of the stream to improve, and fast.
