Shaun Harvey has now revealed how many households in the United States watch Wrexham life.

Wrexham’s popularity in the United States has grown tenfold since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds tookover the club in 2021.

The status of their Hollywood owners has helped provide the Reds with a global platform to grow their fanbase and become recognisable across the planet.

From setting their stall out to create Wrexham into a global force and seeing success transpire onto the pitch, the Welsh side have seen their stock rise dramatically.

This biggest change, aside from on the field, has been achieved in the number of people tuning in to watch the Welsh side, whether that is at the STōK Cae Ras or from afar.

After reaching League Two for the first time since 2008, ESPN revealed that match-viewing figures increased by 858% as a direct result of showcasing the Reds.

World Soccer Talk even discovered that Wrexham are the 84th most-watched club in the United States, placing them above the likes of New York Red Bulls, Orlando City and Austin FC, who are all established sports teams in the MLS.

Now, director of football Shaun Harvey has revealed how many households in the US watch Wrexham games live.

Wrexham regularly boasts that it has the biggest international following of any EFL club – including the likes of Leeds United and Leicester City – but Harvey has now revealed the actual number of subscribers it’s been able to retain for live broadcasts in the US on iFollow.

“There’s probably 5,000 US households that have an annual subscription to watch Wrexham games live,” Harvey told the Guardian. “In isolation that might not sound like a lot, but it’s a massive amount in comparison to the majority of other clubs in the EFL.”

Recently, it was reported that the EFL had secured a four-year, £148m deal to show games outside of the UK.

It is added that the nine-figure deal also features an agreement with Relevant Sports, which will lead to EFL games being promoted in America.

Wrexham have played a major role in helping secure this deal.

With the huge money Disney have made from their ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary, which depicts their rise as a football club, more Americans have become interested in tuning in to the action.

Disney have reportedly raked in a staggering £400,000 per episode from ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, so there is no wonder other American companies are interested in striking while the iron is hot.

After all, the pulling power that the Reds have with McElhenney and Reynolds at the helm shouldn’t be understated.
