Rob McElhenney has shared a defiant message to his Wrexham team ahead of their crucial clash with Crewe at the weekend.

Wrexham suffered a resounding 5-0 defeat to Stockport at the weekend, pouring cold water on the Reds’ recent uptick in form.

The Dragons were on a three game winning streak heading into the fixture, but were soundly beaten as defensive frailties reared their head once again. Despite the setback, co-owner Rob McElhenney is backing manager Phil Parkinson and the boys to put things right this weekend in their match with Crewe Alexandra.

McElhenney’s halftime message backfires vs Stockport

Wrexham were 3-0 down at half-time against Stockport at the weekend. During the break, Rob predicted that Parkinson would get a rise out of his players for the second half.

McElhenney posted on Twitter at half-time: “Phil’s enthusiasm in the locker room will be off the charts. But never, ever leave a Wrexham game. Come on you reds!”

However, he was left rather red faced as the home side scored two more goals to add insult to injury.

‘Well said’: Rob McElhenney shares defiant message ahead of Crewe clash

Still, McElhenney is remaining optimistic despite the humiliating loss. Wrexham’s next match is against fellow promotion-chasers Crewe Alexandra, and the chairman is expecting the boys to bounce back and show what they’re made of.

He shared a defiant Instagram story from Welcome to Wrexham star Millie Tipping. Her rallying cry should provide the team with all the motivation they need to get three points vs Crewe, who sit in sixth in League Two, one place above Wrexham.

Rob re-posted her message which read: “You know what, we might of [sic] lost but we win together, we lose together, we draw together. Lads, we go again against Crewe”.

‘Well said!’ Rob responded.

Phil Parkinson was less than impressed with his team’s display vs Stockport

After his team took a beating against Stockport, manager Phil Parkinson spoke candidly with reporters. “It’s as bad of a first-half that I can remember us playing in terms of all the fundamentals in football,” he said.

“So many times we gave the ball away in the back third and middle third and put ourselves under pressure, our selection of pass and weight of the pass, we put ourselves under so much pressure today.

He added: “Coming away to Stockport, it’s about getting a platform in a game, start properly, do the right things in the right areas of the pitch and build a performance. Today we were sloppy in everything we did and we’ve got to take our medicine.”
