Wrexham took full advantage of Birmingham City’s slip-up to take second place in the League One table after beating Exeter City 3-0.
Last weekend was a tough one for Wrexham, falling to a 1-0 defeat against Stockport County.
Away form has been a problem for Wrexham this season but few teams fancy a trip to the STōK Cae Ras.
Wrexham are lethal at home and that was the case on Saturday as Max Cleworth headed home from close range early on.
Cleworth impressed Wrexham fans and continued his burgeoning reputation as a goalscoring defender.
Ollie Palmer headed Ryan Barnett’s cross into the net for 2-0 on 25 minutes before Ollie Rathbone added number three.
Wrexham needed a big response at home after that defeat to Stockport and Phil Parkinson’s men duly obliged.

Rob McElhenney reacts to Wrexham win
Wrexham were, once again, outstanding on crosses into the box.
Cleworth and Rathbone scored with headers from corners whilst Palmer benefited from another brilliant Ryan Barnett delivery.
This has been a feature of Wrexham’s play under Parkinson and it isn’t going to stop any time soon – especially whilst it helps Wrexham earn results.
Rob McElhenney will certainly have loved watching this Wrexham display from many, many miles away and he has now moved to praise boss Parkinson.
McElhenney took to social media to post just four words – ‘In Phil We Trust’.
That mantra has been present for most of Parkinson’s reign and it was important on Saturday.
Parkinson made some bold changes, playing Elliot Lee off Ollie Palmer in attack whilst bringing Lewis Brunt and Matty James into the team.
Parkinson got it right on Saturday and long may that trust in him continue with Wrexham sitting near the top of the table.
Wrexham take advantage of Birmingham City slip-up
It’s not often that you will find Wrexham fans celebrating a Shrewsbury Town victory.
That was the case on Saturday afternoon though as Shrewsbury produced a remarkable performance to beat Birmingham City 3-2.
New boss Gareth Ainsworth made an instant impact as the struggling Shrews stunned big-spending Birmingham.
Wrexham had a chance to go above the Blues and took that chance, meaning Parkinson heads into the midweek clash against Lincoln City sitting in second place.
There is a long road ahead for Wrexham and it’s too early to really focus on promotion, but there was an opportunity to capitalise on Birmingham’s slip-up – and Wrexham took it.
