Wrexham have cut the gap to Wycombe Wanderers in the League One table after beating Mansfield Town 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Wrexham have regularly shown the ability to bounce back from poor results under Phil Parkinson.

That mentality was certainly needed on Sunday afternoon as Wrexham headed to Mansfield Town.

Defeat to Leyton Orient on Tuesday night was still fresh in the minds of supporters and a response was imperative.

Wrexham took an early lead as Calum Macdonald put through his own net, only to then score at the other end to bring Mansfield level.

Max Cleworth stepped forward as Wrexham’s match-winner, driving home a brilliant low strike to send the travelling fans wild.

Sam Smith comments on Wrexham fans

Not only did Wrexham want a response after losing to Orient, but it was also important to take advantage of Wycombe Wanderers dropping points.

Wycombe drew with Wigan Athletic over the weekend and that opened up the chance for Wrexham to cut the gap to three points.

Parkinson’s side duly obliged, claiming a big win on the road to move closer to the automatic promotion spots.

Maybe Wrexham could have won by a more handsome margin, but it was all about the three points here.

Parkinson was seen rallying the Wrexham fans at one point, just seeking an extra boost for the final stages of the game.

Wrexham fans travelled well and certainly cheered the side on to victory with striker Sam Smith now offering praise.

January signing Smith has taken to X to post ‘3 more points on the road, the support was unreal’ as Wrexham pick up another away win.

Those Wrexham fans will have made a joyous journey back to North Wales as the form on the road turns around.

Wrexham’s away form turning around

For much of the season, Wrexham have been exceptional at home but struggled on the road.

Out of nowhere, Wrexham’s form has completely flipped.

Wrexham’s last two League One home games have ended in defeat, losing to Stevenage and Leyton Orient.

Similarly, Wrexham’s last three away games in League One have now ended in victory.

Parkinson will be searching for answers on just why that form has flipped so dramatically and so rapidly, but as long as Wrexham are picking up wins, those travelling fans won’t mind.
