Wrexham are preparing to welcome Hull City to the Racecourse Ground in their first home game of the season.

Phil Parkinson would have been proud of his side’s performance despite conceding two late goals in their opening day defeat to Southampton in the Championship.

Attention now turns to the EFL Cup and Ryan Longman is set to face his old club as Hull City are the visitors to North Wales in the first round.

It is an opportunity for the Wrexham squad to showcase their talents with a number of changes expected and the Red Dragons will be hoping to improve upon last season’s showing in the cup.

Wrexham suffered EFL Cup first round exit to Sheffield United last season

Wrexham will be hoping to improve upon a first round exit last season as they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

It was a tough draw for Parkinson’s side given their position in League One, however, they took the lead thanks to former defender Will Boyle.

Auston Trusty equalised for the Blades just before half time and Parkinson’s much-changed side were more than holding their own.

Chris Wilder’s side took control after the break with three unanswered strikes before a late Sebastian Revan goal proved to be just a consolation for Wrexham.

Parkinson will be hoping that his side can go one better this season with victory over Hull City and then hope that the club can draw a Premier League side in the second round.

Wrexham hosting first game since new pitch laid at the Racecourse Ground

It will be a historic night at the Racecourse Ground as fans get their first glimpse at home of the likes of Lewis O’Brien and Josh Windass.

In addition, the game will also mark the first game at the stadium since the club laid a new pitch over the summer.

Michael Williamson has improved Wrexham’s infrastructure over the last year and one of his ways to do so was to re-lay a new turf worth £1m.

The new state-of-the-art turf has been laid in line with UEFA and FIFA requirements and is the same turf used at grounds such as the San Siro.
