Phil Parkinson has issued his verdict on Will Boyle’s red card following Wrexham’s 1-1 draw against MK Dons on Tuesday night.
Wrexham arrived into this contest with a real belief that they could win at Stadium MK for the very first time.
Back-to-back victories over Sutton United and Notts County gave them impetus and after James McClean stooped low to head home Luke Young’s corner, that belief would have grown.
Sadly, that lead only lasted four minutes as Dan Kemp returned to haunt Wrexham again by equalising.
Dean Lewington was then shown red for MK Dons as tempers frayed towards the referee but then Will Boyle’s red card erased their one-man advantage.
The 28-year-old has been exceptional in his last two matches, scoring in the win over Sutton and nullifying Macaulay Langstaff in the victory over Notts County.
Unfortunately, just as he was beginning to prove a lot of people wrong, Boyle overstepped the line with his aggression and paid the price for the second time this season as he was shown a second yellow card for mistiming a challenge on Matthew Dennis.
Phil Parkinson, who showed faith in the defender after his previous setback, has now issued his verdict on his latest dismissal.

Phil Parkinson issues verdict on Will Boyle’s red card
Speaking to the Wrexham YouTube channel after the match, Parkinson acknowledged that the first yellow card was soft, but the second was fully deserved.
He said: “You know the first one, the lad has thrown himself to the floor. The second one, he’s done his job, guided him wide and there’s no need to bring him down, so it’s a rash moment and it’s such a shame for Boyley as he’s been outstanding for us you know these last few games.”
Parkinson was ultimately disappointed to see Boyle leave the field of play as he’s been a crucial player for Wrexham in the last two matches and was building a strong defensive trio with Eoghan O’Connell and Max Cleworth.
Boyle has let Wrexham down again
For all of the qualities he brings defensively, there is always a rash side to his game that can rear its head and cost the Reds.
This is how Wrexham lost to Newport County last month and Boyle’s sending-off in this match prevented the visitors from building momentum.
At the point of his dismissal, they had the man advantage and could have pushed on to win the match before a rash challenge from Boyle stopped them in their tracks.
Although Parkinson has previously sung his praises for the defender, he has to consider his place in the team moving forward as this is the second time he’s let his side down.
