Wrexham centre-back Will Boyle is enjoying a resurgence in Phil Parkinson’s side after being slammed for his previous performances.
Will Boyle’s successful return to the starting XI is proof in the pudding that a lot can change in football in a short space of time.
The 28-year-old was lambasted for the role he played in their 5-0 defeat to Stockport County and was told he should never pull on a Wrexham shirt again after receiving a red card in the 1-0 loss to Newport County.
Following his three-match suspension in January, many felt he’d played his final game for the Reds but after working hard in training, Phil Parkinson threw him straight back into the side against Sutton United.
It was a decision that paid off as Boyle scored the game’s opening goal and put in a colossal performance defensively to help Wrexham to all three points.
Boyle, who signed from Huddersfield Town in the summer, followed up that display with a clean sheet against Notts County on Saturday as he nullified goal machine Macaulay Langstaff.
Journalist Nathan Salt has summed up his return to form on social media perfectly.
He wrote: “Cannot knock Boyle for proving a lot of people wrong- myself included – wrong. Couldn’t have got much lower than after his red at Newport and he’s shown immense resilience to play as he did in the two games this week.”
It’s certainly been an immense turnaround for the defender, who previously won the League Two title with Cheltenham Town, and will be hoping to achieve a similar feat at the Racecourse Ground.

Will Boyle is undroppable
Parkinson has switched up his back three a lot this season, but now it feels he’s settled with Eoghan O’Connell, Boyle and Max Cleworth.
That trio have contributed to recording two victories in the space of four days as Parkinson praised his defence for their performance against Notts County.
Out of the three, though, Boyle feels like he’s the most undroppable.
He’s come into the side after being chastised by supporters and has shown immense resilience to perform to a high standard.
There was a point where he was written off completely, but to come back and put in two outstanding displays just shows how mentally strong he is.
It’s that level of mentality that Wrexham need to achieve promotion this term as Boyle’s battle in the face of adversity has made him undroppable.
