Wrexham have made a massive stride towards League One promotion with a 3-0 win over Burton Albion.

Phil Parkinson’s side were frustrated for an hour following the early red card to Burton’s Charlie Webster but made the break through to ease any nerves around the Racecourse Ground.

Steven Fletcher dispatched a penalty following some excellent work from Sam Smith to win the penalty, before Smith grabbed a goal of his own after a wonderful pass from Ryan Longman.

Substitute Jack Marriott sealed the win with a fine finish as the Burton defence tired and the afternoon was capped off with the news that Wycombe were defeated 1-0 by Reading.

It wasn’t all good news for the Red Dragons however, striker Jay Rodriguez was brought off in mysterious circumstances in the first half with it being unclear over whether he was injured, Wrexham fans have given their take on the incident.

Wrexham fans react to Jay Rodriguez substitution

Rodriguez was substituted for Fletcher just after the half hour mark and Wrexham fans have taken to X to voice their opinion over the striker.

One Wrexham fans wrote: “Onto the bench now keep him there.”

Another Wrexham fan wrote : “I saw one of the shadows he was chasing kick out at him. Not even a yellow.”

There was a lot of confusion amongst fans whether the striker was injured or whether it was tactical, one fan called for another Wrexham star and wrote: “Where’s Paul Mullin?”

Another fan had some stronger words for Rodriguez and questioned whether he has a future in North Wales following his first half display.

Rodriguez potential injury could open up opportunity for Paul Mullin

Nathan Salt has advised Paul Mullin to begin looking for a summer transfer away from Wrexham as his exile from the matchday squad continued once again in the win over Burton Albion.

Mullin shared a heartfelt message before the recent clash with Cambridge but must be frustrated at the lack of opportunities to help his side in their promotion quest.

The potential injury to Rodriguez could now however, open up a spot in the Wrexham squad for Mullin if the former England international is forced to miss any of the five remaining games.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Parkinson would choose Mullin to fill the void having picked Modou Faal on the bench over him in recent weeks.
