Wrexham are into the fourth round of the FA Cup following their 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town. George Evans was the shining light as the win was secured.
This weekend, Wrexham travelled to face Shrewsbury as they looked to move forward in the FA Cup once again.
It is safe to say that Phil Parkinson was taking the cup seriously as he named a full-strength side away to Town.
The game looked to be heading towards a reply despite the home side dominating the majority of the chances throughout. They had plenty of chances but just could not make them count in the end.
It was eventually won late on as substitute Sam Dalby laid the ball to Tom O’Connor whose deflected striker found the net. This was enough to secure a spot in the fourth round in consecutive seasons with the draw on Monday night.

On the day, it was George Evans who shone amongst the rest and showed his class in a win against higher-league opposition.
George Evans stood out vs Shrewsbury
Despite often being under the cosh against Shrewsbury, Evans was able to get on the ball and show the quality he possesses. He certainly wasn’t great at shooting as his only effort rolled into the hands of Marko Marosi.
Ignoring that, everything else he did was great. He completed two dribbles which equated to a 100% success rate, according to FotMob.
Defensively he was quite superb, there is no doubt about that. Evans’ performance included 13 recoveries, nine clearances and he won 13 of his 16 duels on the day.
The Shrewsbury side were able to swamp the midfield and often crowded around Andy Cannon, as we mentioned in our player ratings. Without Evans there to help break things up and play ticking, it would have been a different result.
Fans react to his performance
It is safe to say that the Wrexham fans were pleased with the performance and win inside the ground. The noise following the game was all from the Red end of the ground, as it had been all day.
The result came late and saw lots of stressed fans taking to social media to discuss the performance of Evans.
This fan epitomised the feeling of the majority of fans on the day as it was a hard-fought, close-finishing cup fixture. It was clear to see that Shrewsbury wanted the win and a place in the next of the FA Cup, the Reds took it home.
It was a tough afternoon for the most part but Wrexham won’t care now. Evans has been picked out especially, such was his performance.
This fan referred to the Englishman as a ‘Rolls Royce’ which is just a testament to how good he has been since signing. Whether it be dribbling, defending or passing, he just has ability in spades which sees him stand out.
What a signing he has turned out to be. With a big side likely to be coming up in round four, he will have to be on top of his game once again.
