Wrexham fans in total agreement after ‘beautiful’ James McClean moment vs Cambridge – one thing is so clear

Wrexham returned to League One action over the weekend after enjoying EFL Trophy success on Tuesday.

The Red Dragons beat Crewe Alexandra in their last outing, with Phil Parkinson’s eyes now firmly focused on League One.

Wrexham have recently beaten Exeter City, Lincoln City, Barnsley and Burton Albion in the league, all without conceding a single goal.

Standing in their way this time around was a Cambridge United side who though 22nd in the table, had lost just one in five.

Wrexham were favourites ahead of the meeting, especially as they kicked off at the Racecourse Ground unbeaten at home in 2024/25 so far.

Parkinson put out a much stronger side than the one we saw edge past Crewe in the cup earlier in the week.

There were wholesale changes but the most notable were James McClean and George Dobson.

The duo missed the Burton victory owing to suspension but swiftly returned to the eleven, though there was no place for Paul Mullin against his former club.

Wrexham fans all make same point about James McClean vs Cambridge United

Wrexham went behind after 20 minutes on Saturday, ending their run of five games without conceding a goal.

However, Ryan Barnett and McClean combined yet again for the equaliser in the 25th minute, with the Irishman rising high and heading past the Cambridge goalkeeper.

After McClean scored on Saturday, Wrexham fans have taken to social media to react to his effort, with a few dubbing it ‘beautiful’.

One fan said: “James McClean gets the equaliser for Wrexham in the 26th minute off a beautiful header off a Barnett cross.

A second Wrexham supporter stated: “McClean with a beautiful header,” with a third adding: “Captain fantastic – what a player!”

“What. A. Player,” another fan simply wrote, with a fifth saying: “The Irish Beckham strikes again!”

A sixth fan added: “Love you James McLean LETS GO,” with another adding: “Great cross from Barney and header from McClean.”

Wrexham may need to sign James McClean backup soon

McClean joined Wrexham from Wigan Athletic in 2023 and has proven himself to be a superb addition.

He is now the club captain and has managed to chip in with two goals and three assists from left-wing-back this season.

However, now 35, the Red Dragons may have to start thinking about finding a replacement in the coming windows.

Jacob Mendy is probably not good enough to play in League One and almost certainly not the Championship if they go up this season.

Sebastian Revan has been poor for Wrexham since he signed as well, with it clear McClean remains by far and away Parkinson’s best left-back option.
