Wrexham goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo has been highly praised by Wrexham fans following his return to the starting XI vs Newport County.
This weekend saw Wrexham secure their third win in four games thanks to a 2-0 victory over Newport County.
Thanks to goals from James Jones and Elliot Lee, the Reds maintained their place in the top three of League Two. This sees them sitting in third place going into Christmas, level on points with Barrow in second place.
Despite Phil Parkinson’s side having plenty more possession than their rivals, according to Fotmob, they failed to make the advantage count. This was until Jones opened the scoring on 64 minutes before Lee doubled the lead with 87 minutes gone.

These goals helped to break a 120-year club record for consecutive home goals. Although that might be the case, one man stood out to fans following his return to the starting XI.
What has been said about Arthur Okonkwo?
The Arsenal loanee returned to the starting XI vs Newport after missing three games due to a jaw injury sustained against Harrogate. It was a welcome relief to fans to see him return to the side, despite Mark Howard’s recent performances.
With two saves across the 90, Okonkwo was able to keep a clean sheet. This saw him keep out 0.5 xG which certainly helped secure all three points.
His performance was singled out by the club on their official Twitter page as they posted a video message from the keeper.
This sparked plenty of engagement from fans who were speaking out in support of their returning number one.
One fan was full of praise for the shot-stopper following his saves. These saw Okonkwo keep Newport out and keep the scores level on the day. It is safe to say without him, the result might have been different from the three points gained.
His return has again sparked the conversation over signing the keeper on a permanent deal from Arsenal when possible. This fan has earmarked the January transfer window as an opportunity to make Okonkwo a permanent Wrexham star.
This sentiment was shared across various social media with plenty of praise for the shot-stopper also on Instagram. It is safe to say that his loan isn’t enough. This is made clear as one fan said: “Buy him. Arsenal don’t want him PLZ RYAN AND ROB”
Adding to that, another fan replied: “What a boss! Make the loan permanent, @vancityreynolds @robmcelhenney!”
It is clear to see that Okonkwo is a popular figure around the club. With performances like he has put in so far this season, this praise won’t come as a surprise to anybody.
